Working for Birds and Conservation in Colombia
Conservation in Colombia is such a large and complex issuesubjeect but We have to work for it which we cannot afford to ignore. There are many aspects to conservation including species, sites and habitats, as well as the interactions between them and the impacts of human activity upon them.and the in turn their interactions with the activities of man.

Bogota rail (Rallus semiplumbeus) and Apolinar’s wren (Cistothorus apolinari) habitat conservation in Cundinamarca: Promoting local participation
The Apolinar’s Wwren and Bogota Rail are the most endangered endemic bird in the vicinity ofnear to BogotáBogota, where . Its habitats, including the hHigh Andean montane, and the wetland environments ares is rapidly disappearing due to human activities such as conversion to cattle pasture or urbanization. Recent efforts to study theise species have been difficult and produced a worryingly low number of observations especially with the wren. Our project aims to reduce the ongoing habitat loss for those species near to Bogota, through increasing the efficiency of existing pasture for cattle and decreasing wetland conversion. Furthermore, we will conduct awareness-raising activities regardingon issues that directly affect theiss bird’s’ habitat. Since little is known about the species’ ecological traits, our project will address research on the feeding ecology of bothabout rail and wren and will look for local participation in research activities, especially among the younger generationyoungsters (by partnering with schoolsSchool). This will build local capabilitiescities to ensure long-term monitoring.

This Project is linked with our : ‘Conservation’ Tours’ that generate funds for the Colombian threatened birds Conservation Fund.

Conservation Tour participants automatically support valuable projects across the Andean area from Colombian, area, particularly those within critically endangered and endangered birds such as:

Cundinamarca antpitta (Grallaria kaestneri)
Bogota Rail (Rallus semiplumbeus)
Apolinar’s wren (Cistothorus apolinari)
Colombian mountain grackle (Macroagelaius subalaris)
Chestnut bellied hummingbird (Amazilia castaneiventris)
Niceforo’s wren (Thryophilus nicefori)
