ENJOY AND DISCOVERY THE BIRDWATCHING IN LA FLORIDA WETLAND, LAGUNA EL TABACAL AND JARDIN ENCANTADO

Morning (5:30am).

We will depart to the Florida Wetland in the city Bogota, at a altitude of 2600m. Wetlands are vital to human survival. They are one of the most productive environments in the world, and are cradles of biological diversity and sources of water and primary productivity of which countless plant and animal species depend to survive.

Wetlands are indispensable because of the innumerable benefits or «ecosystem services» they provide to humanity, from freshwater supply, food and building materials, and biodiversity, to flood control, groundwater recharge and mitigation of climate change (Ramsar 2014).

You will can see some very interesting birds as Bogota Rail, Spot-flanked Gallinule, Noble Snipe, Andean Duck, Andean Teal, Blue-winged Teal, Andean Teal, Ruddy Duck ssp. Andina, Great Egret (American), Cattle Egret, Striated Heron, Black-crowned Night-Heron, Black Vulture, American Coot, Rock Pigeon, Eared Dove, Greentailed Trainbearer, Tropical Kingbird, Brown-bellied Swallow, Great Thrush, Rufous-collared Sparrow, Eastern Meadowlark, Southern Lapwing (Northern). Tropical Mockingbird and many more.

Endemic Birds: Bogota Rail, Silvery-throated Spinetail and Apolinar´s Wren.

Other target birds: Subtropical Doradito, Masked Ducks, Striped Owl. 

Morning (10:30am).

We will start our way to the high Magdalena Valley. After of Birding in Florida Wetland, we will move to La Laguna el Tabacal Nature Reserve in the municipality La Vega at 2 hours from Bogota and at a altitude of 1250m. Presents abundant native vegetation of premontane forest surrounding the lagoon.

Endemic Birds: Velvet-fronted Euphonia, Apical flycatcher.

Near endemic birds: Bar-crested Antshrike, Scrub Tanager, Spectacled parrotlet, Grey-throated warbler.

Other target bird species: Pied-billed Grebe, White-throated Crake, Ruddy Quail-Dove, Squirrel Cuckoo, Grayrumped Swift, Plain Antvireo, Rusty-breasted Antpitta, Wedge-billed Woodcreeper, Boat-billed Flycatcher, Rusty-margined Flycatcher, Black-bellied Wren, Pale-vented Thrush, rufous-capped Warbler, Buff-rumped Warbler, crimson-backed Tanager, Saffron Finch, Blue-black Grassquit, Rosy Thrush-Tanager, Ash-browned Spinetail, White-bellied Antbird, Stripe-breasted Spinetail, Black-headed Brush-Finch, White-bearded, Striped Manakin, Band-backed, Speckle-breasted Wren, White-winged Becard, White-fringed Antwren, White-bellied,
Jet, Dusky Antbirds and many more birds.

Afternoon.

We will visit the Jardin Encantado, this hummingbird feeding station is only going to get more famous! Close to the birding site of La Vega and convenient for birders day-tripping from Bogota, several rare species of hummingbirds are virtually guaranteed here. This place is located near the Cañas River in the Municipality of San Francisco, at an altitude of 1500m. The average temperature is 22C and the distance of Bogota D.C is 52 km.

Endemic Birds: Indigo-capped Hummingbird.

Near endemic birds: Red Billed Emerald, Lazuline Sabrewing.

Key Species hummingbirds: White Bellied Woodstart, White-necked Jacobin, Green Hermit, Andean emerald, rufous tailed hummingbird, Gorgeted Woodstar, Ruby Topaz, Black Throated Mango, Rufous-tailed Hummingbird, White-vented Plumeleteer, White-bellied Crowned Woodnymph, White bellied and many more species.

Return to Bogota D.C. in the afternoon (Around 5:00pm)
