A 7 day birding tour focused in Bogota and Cundinamarca, an  area you can to find a lot of birds and nature.  Almost 200 birds with very good times for photography in paramo and cloud forest. Also you will can observed many different ecosystems and bird species diversity.

The main focus of Bogota Birding Tour is the lands surrounding the Bogota, including Cloud forest the eastern Andes, paramo, Magdalena Valley, and dry forest. Well-known as well as less-visited birding localities in near Bogota are explored, and suggestions for new destinations are always welcome. We provide fellow bird watchers with high-quality birding and we welcome birders with all levels of experience. All trips and day excursions will be arranged considering the experience and general preferences of the participating customers. We are just as happy to spend a day searching for a single elusive species as we are enjoying the abundant hummingbird, wren, and grackle near to Bogota. Our green tanager or minibus has large windows which are excellent for birdwatching and allows all participants to enjoy the surroundings. We are able to offer guidings in English and Spanish. DAY 1: ARRIVAL TO BOGOTA CITY

Transfer El Dorado International Airport to hotel. Meeting with the leader guide of Bogota Birding & Colombia Wildlife Tours. If you like we can to visit around Bogota attractions, such as the Gold Museum (Museo del Oro), Cerro Monserrate, or the Candelaria neighbourhood. Night: Hotel Hilton Bogotá.

DAY 2: CHINGAZA NATIONAL PARK

We will depart to Chingaza National Park. This incredible place is located only one hour and half away from Bogota. We will be birding here all the day exploring Paramo and moorland ecosystems. Targets: Andean Bear, Hummingbirds, Coppery-bellied Puffleg, Bronze-tailed Thornbill, Glowing Puffleg, Longuemare´s Sunangel, Blue throated Starfrontlet, Tyrian Metaltail, Sword-billed hummingbird, Mountain Velvetbreast, Great sapphirewing. Night: Lodge Chingaza

Endemic Birds: Silvery-throated Spinetail, Green-bearded Helmetcrest

Near-Endemic Birds: Blue-throated Starfrontlet, Golden-faced Whitestart, Coopery-bellied Puffleg and Black-billed Mountain-Toucan.

Altitude: 9186 ft – 9842 ft (2800m – 3000m)

DAY 3: CHINGAZA NATIONAL PARK & OBSERVATORIO DE COLIBRIES 

Birding all morning in Chingaza. If the previous day was not observed the Spectacled Bear. So, we will try to find it during this morning.

Endemic Birds: Silvery-throated Spinetail, Green-bearded Helmetcrest

Near-Endemic Birds: Blue-throated Starfrontlet, Golden-faced Whitestart, Coopery-bellied Puffleg and Black-billed Mountain-Toucan.

In the afternoon transfer to La Calera, there are very nice site “Observatorio de Colibries” with many hummingbird species for photography. Night: Hotel Hilton Garden

DAY 4: LA FLORIDA WETLAND, LAGUNA TABACAL NATURE RESERVE & JARDIN ENCANTADO

We will depart to the Florida Wetland in the city Bogota, You will can see some very interesting birds as Bogota Rail, Spot-flanked Gallinule, Noble Snipe, Andean Duck, Andean Teal, Blue-winged Teal, Andean Teal, Ruddy Duck ssp. Andina, Great Egret (American), Cattle Egret, Striated Heron, Black-crowned Night-Heron, Black Vulture, American Coot, Rock Pigeon, Eared Dove, Green-tailed Trainbearer, Tropical Kingbird, Brown-bellied Swallow, Great Thrush, Rufous-collared Sparrow, Eastern Meadowlark, Southern Lapwing (Northern). Tropical Mockingbird and many more.

Endemic Birds: Bogota Rail, Silvery-throated Spinetail and Apolinar´s Wren

Around 10:00am we will move to Laguna El Tabacal Nature Reserve in the municipality La Vega, a spectacular area close Magdalena Valley.

Endemic Birds: Velvet-fronted Euphonia, Apical flycatcher.
Near endemic birds: Bar-crested Antshrike, Scrub Tanager, Spectacled parrotlet, Grey-throated warbler.

After the lunch we will visit Jardin Encantado. Some species: Indigo-capped Hummingbird, Red Billed Emerald, Lazuline Sabrewing, Ruby Topaz, Black Throated Mango, Rufous-tailed Hummingbird and many more. Night: Hotel Hilton Garden.

Chicaque Nature Reserve

DAY 5: CHICAQUE NATURE RESERVE

Chicaque Nature Reserve present subandino and Andean forest with plants like ferns, orchids, mosses, palms, oaks and abundant bushes due to the humidity of the reserve. It has more than 300 ha, becoming the home of more than 200 species of birds.

We are here for to observe the enigmatic Golden bellied Starfronlet and other targets birds here in the hummingbird feeders: Tourmaline Sunangel, White bellied woodstar, Sparkling, Lesser Violetear Hummingbird, White collared Inca and Mountain Velvetbrest in an incredible cloud forest in the western slope of the eastern Andes. Night: Los Cactos Nature Reserva.

DAY 6: LOS CACTOS NATURE RESERVE

Sumapaz National Park is represented two of the main ecosystems of the tropical mountains: the Paramo and the Andean forests. El Páramo de Sumapaz is the largest in the world. It houses a large number of lagoons, all of them of glacial origin. It is one of the most important water sources in the country. Night: Hilton Garden

DAY 7: GUAYABETAL – REFUGIO DEL TOROROI

We will transfer very morning to Guayabetal. Located at an altitude of between 1700-3000m.s.n.m. in Eastern Andes. Monterredondo has relics of Andean cloud forest with a high wealth of species of birds and other species of animals, for that reason it is an area of interest for the conservation of the birds of Colombia. In our Birding trip, we will observe the endemic Cundinamarca Antpitta (This species is very difficult to observe, but with lucky is possible). Also the species Brown-breasted Parakeet, Gorgeted Wood-Quails, Highland Tinamou, Green-bellied Hummingbird, Violet-fronted Brilliant, Crested Spinetail, Ochre-breasted Brush-Finch. In trees of Erythrina when are flowering (Mainly between December and March) is very easy to observe Glittering-throated Emerald and Other hummingbirds. Night: Hilton Garden

International flight for home. The participants will we transfer to the El Dorado International Airport to take their international flight or connections in Colombia.
