ITINERARY

DAY 1: ARRIVAL TO BOGOTA CITY

Transfer El Dorado International Airport to hotel. Meeting with the leader guide of Bogota Birding & Colombia Wildlife Tours. If you like we can to visit around Bogota attractions, such as the Gold Museum (Museo del Oro), Cerro Monserrate, or the Candelaria neighbourhood. Night: Hotel Double Tree Hilton Bogota or Hotel Tequendama.

Altitude: 8530 ft (2600 m)

Inclusions: Transfer airport to hotel; Dinner; hotel accommodations.

DAY 2: GUAYABETAL – MONTERREDONDO

We will transfer very morning to Guayabetal. Located at an altitude of between 1700-3000m.s.n.m. in Eastern Andes. Monterredondo has relics of Andean cloud forest with a high wealth of species of birds and other species of animals, for that reason it is an area of interest for the conservation of the birds of Colombia. In our Birding trip, we will observe the endemic Cundinamarca Antpitta (This species is very difficult to observe, but with lucky is possible). Also the species Brown-breasted Parakeet, Gorgeted Wood-Quails, Highland Tinamou, Green-bellied Hummingbird, Violet-fronted Brilliant, Crested Spinetail, Ochre-breasted Brush-Finch. In trees of Erythrina when are flowering (Mainly between December and March) is very easy to observe Glittering-throated Emerald and Other hummingbirds. Night: Rancho Camana Nature Reserve.

DAY 3: BAVARIA FOREST

Birding around Villavicencio area and Bavaria forest – Llanos foothills. Some birds that you could see this day: Cobalt-winged Parakeet, Blue-headed Parrot, Green-rumped Parrotlet, Spectacled Parrotlet, Red-bellied Macaw, Scarlet-fronted Parakeet, White-necked Jacobin, White-bearded Hermit, Green Hermit, Black-throated Hermit, Gray-chinned Hermit, Black-throated Mango, Long-billed Starthroat, Blue-tailed Emerald, White-vented Plumeleteer, Fork-tailed Woodnymph, Gilded Barbet, Crimson-rumped Toucanet, Lettered Aracari, Olivaceous Woodcreeper, Plain-brown Woodcreeper, Wedge-billed Woodcreeper. Night: Rancho Camana Nature Reserve.

DAY 4: RANCHO CAMANA NATURE RESERVE

Birding and photography in Rancho Camana. This area have a fragment of Tropical forest with a high biodiversity. Here you can see some bird targets like Swallow-tailed Kite, Black Hawk-Eagle, Snail Kite, Plumbeous Kite, Crane Hawk, White-tailed Hawk, Broad-winged Hawk, Swainson’s Hawk, Amazon Kingfisher, Russet-throated Puffbird, Gilded Barbet, Lettered Aracari, Chestnut-eared Aracari, Scaled Piculet, Red-bellied Macaw, Chestnut-fronted Macaw, White-browed Antbird, Plain-crowned Spinetail, Crested Oropendola, Olive Oropendola, Yellow-rumped Cacique, Silver-beaked Tanager, Burnished-buff Tanager, Blue-necked Tanager, Turquoise Tanager, Swallow Tanager, Blue Dacnis, Purple Honeycreeper, Gray Seedeater and many more. We will move from camana to Bogotá in the afternoon. Night: Hilton Garden or Aloft Airport

DAY 5: BOGOTÁ TO HATO LA AURORA (CASANARE)

After the breakfast we will move from hotel to airport to take a flight from Bogotá to Yopal. We arrived in Yopal and meet our local guide / in where 4×4 cars will be waiting to go at Hato La Aurora Nature Reserve to rest (5 hours by car to lodge). Birding and Photography bird in the road. Night: Juan Solito Lodge.

DAY 6, 7 & 8: HATO LA AURORA NATURE RESERVE

Photographic and safari expedition on Savanna.

Has very good feeders and option the photographic widlife: birds, mammals, raptors, Capibara, Heron, caiman, anaconda and many more.

During our three full days in this unique and bird-rich biome, we will explore the key habitats including riverine (gallery) forest, flood plains, scrubby vegetation, tropical dry forest and shrubs. Each of these habitats offers distinctive wildlife. Hato La Aurora is a private reserve of 16.000 hectares (40.000 acre) that conserve the natural grassland of llanos and the areas of tropical, riparian and secondary forest. From 2005 the owners of the reserve conserve animals that are possible to see in the reserve as Jaguar, Anaconda, Giant Otter, White-tailed Deer, Central American Ocelot, Llanos long-nosed Armadillo, Giant Armadillo, Crab-eating (Savanna) Fox, White-lipped Peccary, South American Tapir, Northern Tamandua, Giant Anteater and many more, also many reptiles and amphibians. Some of the most important birds to watch in Hato La Aurora include: Feeders Tanager, oropéndola and jay, White-bearded Flycatcher, Pale-headed Jacamar, Horned Screamer, Scarlet Ibis, Jabiru, Orinoco Goose, Double-striped Thick-knee, Maguari Stork, Pinnated Bittern, Sharp-tailed Ibis, Crane Hawk, Masked Cardinal, Oriole Blackbird, Violeaceous Jay, Rufous Motmot, Scaled Piculet, Burrowing Owl, Nacunda Nighthawk, Yellow-browed Sparrow, Yellowish Pipit, Buff-necked Ibis, . The reserve have lake with permanent water, amazing forest and savannas, the possibilities to take pictures are really incredible and the nocturnal explorations are always an available. DAY 9: HATO LA AURORA NATURE RESERVE TO BOGOTA

Birding and wildlife watching in the morning in Hato La Aurora, in the afternoon we will transfer to Yopal. We will take a flight from Yopal to Bogota. Transfer to hotel to rest. We will eat a delicious dinner for finished our birding and wildlife tour. Night: Hotel Double Tree Hilton Bogota or Hotel Tequendama.

DAY 10: BOGOTA CITY

International flight for home. The participants will we transfer to the El Dorado International Airport to take their international flight or connections in Colombia.

You will visit the ecosystems of High Andean Forest, Llanos Foothills and Savanna.
