DAY 6, 7 & 8: HATO LA AURORA NATURE RESERVE

During our three full days in this unique and bird-rich biome, we will explore the key habitats including riverine (gallery) forest, flood plains, scrubby vegetation, tropical dry forest and shrubs. Each of these habitats offers distinctive wildlife. Hato La Aurora is a private reserve of 16.000 hectares (40.000 acre) that conserve the natural grassland of llanos and the areas of tropical, riparian and secondary forest. From 2005 the owners of the reserve conserve animals that are possible to see in the reserve as Jaguar, Anaconda, Giant Otter, White-tailed Deer, Central American Ocelot, Llanos long-nosed Armadillo, Giant Armadillo, Crab-eating (Savanna) Fox, White-lipped Peccary, South American Tapir, Northern Tamandua, Giant Anteater and many more, also many reptiles and amphibians. Some of the most important birds to watch in Hato La Aurora include: Feeders Tanager, oropéndola and jay, White-bearded Flycatcher, Pale-headed Jacamar, Horned Screamer, Scarlet Ibis, Jabiru, Orinoco Goose, Double-striped Thick-knee, Maguari Stork, Pinnated Bittern, Sharp-tailed Ibis, Crane Hawk, Masked Cardinal, Oriole Blackbird, Violeaceous Jay, Rufous Motmot, Scaled Piculet, Burrowing Owl, Nacunda Nighthawk, Yellow-browed Sparrow, Yellowish Pipit, Buff-necked Ibis, . The reserve have lake with permanent water, amazing forest and savannas, the possibilities to take pictures are really incredible and the nocturnal explorations are always an available.
