ENJOY AND DISCOVERY THE BIRDWATCHING IN SUMAPAZ NATIONAL PARK
Morning (5:30am).
We will depart to Sumapaz National Park located at a height between 2800-3200m. This incredible place is located only one hour and half from Bogota. In the National Natural Park Sumapaz are represented two of the main ecosystems of the tropical mountains: the páramo and the Andean forests; In these last are the bands of vegetation of high Andean forest, Andean and subandino.
The Páramo de Sumapaz is the largest in the world. It houses a large number of lagoons, all of them of glacial origin. It is one of the most important water sources in the country. Within its ecosystem live spectacled bears, deer, and several species of endemic birds. You will can see some very interesting birds as Tawny Antpitta, Pale Bellied Tapaculo, Silvery-throated Spinetail; Red-rumped Bush-Tyrant, Red-crested Cotinga, Black-chested Buzzard Eagle, Many-striped Canastero, Andean titi spinetail, Chestnut-winged Cinclodes, Plain-capped Ground-Tyrant, Andean Ruddy Duck, and many more!!!
Endemic Birds: Green-bearded Helmetcrest, Bogota Rail, Apolinar´s Wren and Silvery-throated Spinetail.
Near Endemic Birds: Bronze-tailed Thronbill, Tawny-rumped Tyrannulet and Rufous browed conebill.
Other target birds: Andean Teal, Ruddy Duck, American Coot, Greater Yellowlegs, noble Snipe, Bronze-tailed Thronbill, Great Sapphirewing, Tawny Antpitta, Andean Tit-Spinetail, Brown-backed Chat-Tyrant, Brown-bellied Swallow, House Wren, Great Thrush, Rufous-browed Conebill, Glossy Flowerpiercer, Plumbeous Sierra-Finch, Andean Siskin and other more!!!
Afternoon: We will stop for a moment to have lunch on the way. Then we will continue with the Birding in Sumapaz National Natural Park.
